Pediatric ER Rotation

Location:

CHOP

34th Street and Civic Center BoulevardER is

ER on 1^st floor

Setup of Rotation:

You will be assigned to a team (1,2,3,4, or urgent care). Basically you will be seeing patients and presenting either to the fellow or the attending on your team. Notes are written on the clipboard charts. Orders placed in the computer system. You will learn to triage, treat acute visits, send home, or admit patients. Great setting to learn how to suture, put on casts, and do lumbar punctures.

PFC Clinic

Every Thursday afternoon. Also you are expected to be at conference here on Thursday mornings.

Computer Systems:

WellSoft – on the first day of the rotation, you will meet with the rotation coordinator, who will give you a CHOP pager, password for computer system and brief overview on how to use this computer system.

Sunrise-used to write orders in the ED. Automatically interfaces with Wellsoft in the ED

www.phillypeds.com - is the website that has a lot of pediatric information including the pediatric intern survival guide. See chief or senior resident for UN/PW.

Charts:

Clipboard charts for physicians. Vitals are entered into wellsoft by nurses.

Parking:

1. The parking lot is on 34^th street past HUP and CHOP. It is called parking lot 51. There is a shuttle bus that runs back and forth between parking lot/HUP and CHOP usually every 5-10 mins and more frequently during rush hour. Take the shuttle otherwise it is a good 10 min walk to the hospital.

2. The parking magnet card will be given to you during orientation. You will also be given a parking sticker that you are supposed to display on the left passenger window of your car.

3. You may park in Woods Building underground garage if you are on overnight shift. Swipe ID card after 2pm on weekdays (anytime on weekends) to get in.
