HUP OB CALL

Call Times:

- Monday to Thursday 5pm-7am

- Friday 5pm-8am

- Sat & Sun 8am-8am

- Holidays 8am-8am

Responsibilities:

1) Postpartum Mom

• Get detailed signout from resident
• Call attending on call the night before Sat, Sun, or holiday about rounding times
• May use resident on presby call to put in sunrise orders if does not require evaluation of patient and you are home
• If you are discharging mom, make sure you babypath the discharge
• Requires discharge document on sunrise

2) Newborn Nursery

a. Get detailed signout from resident

b. As above, call attending on call the night before Sat, Sun, or holiday about rounding times

c. If called about bilirubin, check the chart to see if baby require lights (may call resident at presby for back-up or call attending with any questions)

d. If need to transfer pt to ICN for any reason,

i. be sure to touch base with attending and communicate with the ICN ped residents/attending

ii. write transfer note

e. Remember to babypath on day of discharge

f. Requires discharge document on sunrise

3) Active Labor Floor

a. Get detailed signout from resident (know who is the attending on call)

b. Must remain on labor floor unless pt is on cervidil or cytotec

c. Attending should be in house if pt is on pitocin

d. Call attending for any questions

e. If strip looks bad and need to consult OB

i. formal consult is through the attending

ii. ask nicely and hopefully OB residents will jump in if need quicker assistance

f. Need to babypath every new admission

g. Need to print out delivery note after every delivery

h. Postpartum orders

i. Update signout

4) PEC

a. Look up pt on EPIC or if health annex pt, get chart from cabinet (sometimes not there)

b. Evaluate patient and call attending on call with plan

c. If send home, make sure to document on EPIC and forward to PMD

d. If admit then follow protocol above (if pt has continuity resident, page them to give them heads up)

5) Saturday calls

a. Be sure you touch base with the attending on call the night before about rounds

b. Pre-round and write notes on postpartum moms and babies

c. PFC Clinic from 9am-12pm

- Dulles 6th Floor - contact the Chiefs for more information 

Parking:

- Penn Tower Garage

o 5pm-8am Mon-Fri, all day on Sat & Sun

o Pick up ticket and write name, dept, and “on call” on the back of ticket

o Go to cashier on 1st floor with HUP ID to get ticket before you go back to your car
