PRESBY Night Float
Call Times:
- Sun 8am to Mon 7am
- Mon 6pm to Tues 7am
- Tues 6pm to Wed 7am
- Wed 5:30pm Clinic, then call from 9pm to Thur 7am
- Thur 6pm to Fri 7am
- Fri 6pm to Sat 8am (write notes on Sat AM)
- Sat 8am to Sun 8am (write notes on Sun AM)
Responsibilities:
1) Floor Patients
- Get signout from intern/resident on service at beginning of shift
- Midnight round on patients before going to bed (eyeball, check vitals)
- If pt requires transfer to ICU; i.Touch base with attending and can curbside ICU resident, ii.Call ICU fellow when you are transferring, iii.Write transfer note
- Update signout if any significant events, med changes, or new to do’s
- Call attending on call for any questions
2) ER Admissions
- We get 1st unassigned pt of the day
- Check medview to make sure really our pt
- Call attending on call about admissions
- Admission note (leave in chart, if pt in ED – make a copy and leave note with ED chart)
- Admission orders
- Update signout
3) Answering Service
- Will receive page from 215-467-1900
- Take down name (spelling is often wrong), dob, phone #, reason for call
- Look up pt on Epic first (if can’t find may need to look up dob on medview. If not our patient call back answering service and let them know)
- Return call as promptly as possible
- Document on Epic and forward chart to PMD
- If pt needs appointment on Monday morning can cc call center (type “P PFC” then pick call center)
- If pt needs medications called in, take down pharmacy # and call in rx if emergency. If leaving for MA to call then make sure forward chart to MA (type “P PFC” and pick MA of whichever team)
- Any questions – may call attending on call for back-up
4) Friday night call
- Night float resident is responsible for writing progress notes on floor patients and giving to resident coming on next morning
5) OB patients
- If pt requires to go to PEC for evaluation, document and forward chart to PMD and HUP resident on call
- Page HUP resident to give the heads up
Call Room:
- 6th Floor Wright-Saunders
- Email chiefs for call room door codes
Parking:
- Indoor Garage at Presby is available only after hours, Mon-Fri 2p-9a and Weekends all day
- Swipe with card to get in and out
- Make sure to take car out by 9 AM
