Presbyterian Family Medicine Inpatient Rotation
Location:
Patients can be on Cupp 3rd or 4th floor and Scheie 3rd floor.
Setup of Rotation:
The rotation is set up with 1-2 interns and one third year resident and one attending. During the months when there is only one intern, there may be a second year resident on the team. Their responsibilities will largely be teaching, doing consults and assisiting the PGY1 and PGY3 with daily duties. They may also use this time to spend in the ER doing procedures. You will be the only FP intern but may have another PMR intern with you. There is a night float system in place so interns do not take call or weekends. Your hours are 7am to 6pm Monday-Friday and then clinic every Wednesday evening from 6pm to 9pm. Sign-out is at 7am and 6pm with the night float resident (2nd or 3rd year). The third year resident on service with you has clinic on M/W/F afternoons and has to cover HUP OB on T/Th afternoons, so you will be covering the floor and admissions on your own most afternoons. You will carry the FM pager when you are at work. Attending rounds can be anytime from 8.30am to 10am depending on the attending, so make sure you pre-round and complete all your daily notes ASAP. After attending rounds, you should go and check in with the social worker/nurse case manager for any patients that have imminent needs/discharge issues. The rest of the day is for floor work/admissions. You get anywhere from 0-3/4 admissions per day.
