Asthma Lesson Plan 6: What have we learned?
Aim: Students will take what they have learned about asthma and express it creatively.
Performance Objectives:
- Students will learn how to live and thrive with asthma.
- Students will discuss their findings after interviewing an asthma patient.
Materials:
Healthy snack
Markers, crayons, colored pencils, colored paper
Folders
Storyboard – decorated with “team name”
Storyboard materials (pieces of colored paper, stickytack, white cards)
Handouts/worksheets
Certificate
Camera
Poster / Banner-creating materials (paper/posterboard, more markers, stickers)
1. Introduction (10 minutes)
Penn students will ask for feedback about the residents.
Were the residents…
- Friendly?
- Helpful?
- Knowledgeable?
- Informative?
- An important part of this course?
2. Homework Review (25 minutes)
Each student will answer a few questions about his/her interview:
- Who did you interview?
- Male/female?
- Age?
- What triggers are particularly difficult for this person?
- What does this person do to prevent attacks?
3. I may have asthma, but I can still… (15 minutes)
Penn students will have created a large poster, saying the words “I may have asthma, but I can still…” and elementary students will fill it with activities. Every student will write at least one thing, with the help of a Penn student if necessary.
4. Conclusion (10 minutes)
At the conclusion of the project, the Penn students address the class.
· Review the storyboard – students will see all of the things they have learned.
· Show the finished poster, and express that we are very impressed with their efforts.
5. Certificate Presentation
· One Penn student addresses the class to say thank you and goodbye.
o We want to thank you for participating in our program. We had a lot of fun, and we hope that you did too.
o Are there any questions for us about asthma before we leave?
